Other Site Characteristics

Lac naturel d'effondrement, l'un des plus grands lacs naturels de France. Site important pour les oiseaux, en complémentarité avec les diverses zones humides environnantes (estuaire de la Loire, marais breton...) Envasement préoccupant du lac, lié aux aménagements agricoles du bassin versant et aux rejets polluants entraînant d'importantes perturbations dans le fonctionnement écologique de l'ensemble. Des travaux de dévasement et une amélioration dans la gestion des niveaux d'eau ont été entrepris récemment. Inquiétude également du fait de l'envahissement, pour l'instant localisé, de certains émissaires du lac par une plante aquatique exotique (Myriophyllum brasiliense).

Site présentant un ensemble de milieux variés : milieux aquatiques et palustres, tourbières, landes, prairies, boisements... Les groupements végétaux sont également variés, liés à l'hygrométrie du sol. De beaux ensembles de végétations aquatiques.
