Other Site Characteristics
| Vaste ensemble de collines de grès armoricain (Ménez), d'affleurements de schistes et quartzites de Plougastel (Roc'h), recouverts de landes (et localement de boisements de résineux), abritant sur les pentes, talwegs et fonds de vallée des complexes tourbeux exceptionnels.
Les feux de lande (ex : 896 ha en 1996 dans le Yeun Ellez), l'enrésinement (Epicéa de Sitka), la mise en culture de zones humides (landes mésophiles à tourbeuses) accompagnée de drainages et les dépôts sauvages de matériaux inertes et déchets verts constituent des menaces toujours d'actualité pour la faune et la flore des landes et des tourbières.
Pour mémoire, de 1976 à 2002 au sein du périmètre, ce sont environ :
*630 ha de landes sèches et mésophiles qui ont été détruites par le défrichement agricole, ainsi que 165 ha de landes humides et de tourbières;
*120 ha de landes humides et de tourbières qui ont été transformées en prairies humides à jonc acutiflore à la suite de fauches trop fréquentes ou de surpâturage;
*530 ha de landes sèches et mésophiles, ainsi que 200 ha de landes humides à tourbeuses qui ont été détruites par l'enrésinement. |
4.2 Quality and importance
| Plus vaste ensemble de landes atlantiques de France et plus grand complexe de tourbières de Bretagne avec, en particulier, les landes et tourbières du Cragou (intérêt national), du Vergam, du Mendy, de Trédudon (tourbière ombrogène)etc. et la tourbière bombée du Vénec (réserve naturelle d'Etat). La majeur partie des landes et des secteurs de tourbières sont des habitats naturels d'intérêt comunautaire prioritaires. La zone abrite en particulier l'unique zone du Grand Ouest et du secteur biogéographique atlantique (avec le cours moyen de la Loire) à Castor fiber. Elle accueille également l'essentiel des stations françaises de la Sphaigne de la Pylaie (espèce d'intérêt communautaire), plus de 90% de la population armoricaine de la Moule perlière (espèce d'intérêt communautaire), un important noyau de la population armoricaine de Loutre d'Europe. La présence suspectée (capture dans les années 1960-1970) du Vison d'Europe (Mustela lutreola), si elle était confirmée, ferait de la zone du Yeun Elez un site unique au sein de la Communauté européenne s'agissant de la présence conjointe de trois mammifères semi-aquatiques d'intérêt communautaire (vison, loutre, castor).
On notera également la présence de chaos rocheux à hyménophylles (fougère rare protégée au niveau national) sous habitat de vieille chênaie ombragée et humide.
Le site abrite un patrimoine faunistique et floristique très important et diversifié:
*pour la flore, on ne compte pas moins de 10 espèces protégées à l'échelle nationale, 3 protégées à l'échelle régionael et 24 espèces inscrites à la Liste Rouge du Massif Armoricain.
* pour la faune, 6 espèces inscrites à l'annexe 4 de la directive Habitats, 12 espèces nicheuses et 11 espèces hivernantes inscrites à l'annexe I de la dircetive Oiseaux ainsi que 95 espèces (tout genre confondu) protégées à l'échelle nationale non inscrites aux directives. |
