Other Site Characteristics

Le site s'avère être un ensemble de premier plan autant au niveau esthétique, phytosociologique que floristique. Il est principalement composé de landes, de pelouses et de boisements. Mais ce sont les nombreuses occurrences d'affleurements rocheux, qui avec leur complexe d'association bryo-lichéniques, herbacées et chamaephytiques, génèrent fréquemment une grande diversité végétale. La dynamique des groupements est faible, étant donné leur localisation sur des sols peu profonds, vite asséchés, et qui plus est pauvres en nutriments. Le site subit l'impact de nombreux facteurs socio-économiques tels que la déprise agricole due à l'escarpement de la vallée, la chasse pratiquée sur l'ensemble du site et la fréquentation du public (nombreux sentiers de randonnée pédestre et équestre) qui a un impact non négligeable, surtout en hiver (moto, VTT).

4.2 Quality and importance

La vallée du Canut présente un intérêt important au niveau régional et national par la présence de milieux naturels remarquables fréquentés par une avifaune riche et diversifiée, dont plusieurs espèces sont inscrites à l'annexe I de la directive " Oiseaux " (ce qui a justifié pour ce même périmètre la désignation d'une ZPS). La mosaïque d'habitats d'intérêt communautaire que compte le site, comme les pelouses acidiphiles atlantiques des affleurements rocheux, les landes sèches, humides et mésophiles et les praires humides oligotrophes, constitue des milieux privilégiés pour la faune et contribue ainsi à l'intérêt et la diversité biologique du site. Ces milieux sont les habitats d'espèce des oiseaux présents sur le site.
