Other Site Characteristics

Ce site fait partie des 8 ZPS désignées en ex-Poitou-Charentes pour la sauvegarde des oiseaux de plaine, au premier rang desquels l'Outarde canepetière. Il est voisin à l'ouest de la ZPS "Plaine de Néré à Bresdon", dont les enjeux sont similaires et les populations liées. Les cultures représentent les 8/10 de la surface du site ; elles comprennent des céréales, des oléagineux, de la luzerne souvent intensive, quelques jachères en rotation mais comme partout, en forte régression depuis 2007. Les parcelles sont assez grandes, souvent entrecoupées de vignoble. La survie de l'Outarde canepetière et des autres espèces des plaines cultivées dépend de la mise en oeuvre à grande échelle des mesures testées sous forme de contrats passés avec les agriculteurs. Ces mesures visent à compenser la perte de diversité paysagère et par voie de conséquence des habitats et de l'alimentation (à base d'invertébrés), liée à l'intensification agricole (augmentation de l'homogénéité parcellaire, disparitions des surfaces "pérennes" : prairies, luzernes, jachères, haies, etc...). Ce sont les élements-clés de la survie de l'espèce. Le développement du grand éolien en périphérie de la ZPS, voire à l'intérieur à moyen terme, entraîne une grande incertitude quant aux impacts localisés et cumulés.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le site est une des huit zones de plaines à Outarde canepetière retenues comme majeures en région ex-Poitou-Charentes. Il s'agit d'une des deux principales zones de survivance de cette espèce dans le département de la Charente. Celle-ci abrite ~7% des effectifs régionaux. Au total 13 espèces d'intérêt communautaire sont présentes dont 3 atteignent des effectifs remarquables sur le site. Des effectifs importants de Vanneau (Vanellus vanellus) (plusieurs milliers) sont également notés en hivernage et au passage migratoire.
