Other Site Characteristics

C'est l'équilibre entre milieux ouverts, marécageux et boisés, et la présence d'un cortège d'espèces inféodées à ces milieux qui a motivé la désignation de ce site. La définition fine du périmètre est également due à la présence du Vison d'Europe et du Desman des Pyrénées, notamment pour la prise en compte du chevelu de cours d'eau. L'inventaire faunistique et floristique du DOCOB a révélé la présence de nombreuses espèces listées en annexe I et II de la directive « Habitats, faune et flore » dont certaines non initialement inscrites au FSD comme la Loutre d'Europe, mais les prospections n'ont pas pu affirmer la présence du Vison d'Europe. La connectivité au sein du site (amont-aval et entre habitats) n'est pas satisfaisante. de nombreuses espèces de poissons migrateurs sont bloqués et ne peuvent rejoindre la zone amont. La présence d'espèces invasives est une menace pour les habitats et les espèces actuellement présents. De même, la dégradation de la qualité de l'eau (charge en azote notamment) est un enjeu pour l'avenir de ce site.

4.2 Quality and importance

La Nive est un des rares bassins versants à accueillir l'ensemble des espèces de poissons migrateurs du territoire français, excepté l'Esturgeon européen. D'autre part, ce site est identifié comme habitat favorable pour le Vison d'Europe. Sa situation privilégiée, sur un territoire peu industrialisé à dominante agricole (élevage), a permis de préserver les habitats et les espèces d'intérêt communautaire de ce site.
