Zone de pleine mer située sur le plateau continental et le talus abyssal Site entièrement marin. Il est vulnérable aux pollutions marines. Il est aussi le lieu d'activités de pêche professionnelle de plusieurs métiers pratiqués par des flottilles provenant de diverses régions maritimes de la façade atlantique, voire de plusieurs Etats membres de l'Union Européenne. Les métiers en activité (chalutiers, fileyeurs, palangriers, ligneurs) varient selon la période de l'année et les espèces recherchées".

4.2 Quality and importance

Le secteur est une importante zone d'hivernage de l'avifaune marine en lien avec sa richesse en ressources alimentaires. Le périmètre représente une zone sensible pour ces espèces et se caractérise par la présence de jeunes adultes qui font partie des futures générations. Les plus fortes concentrations ont été enregistrées entre janvier et mars .
