Other Site Characteristics

Présence d'anciennes galeries minières souterraines de la COGEMA. Le site était historiquement entretenu par le pâturage extensif bovins. L'abandon de cette pratique a conduit à un enfrichement qui a mis en péril les espèces présentes. L'animation mise en place sur le périmètre initial(remise en place du pâturage, réouverture de milieux) a permis de sécuriser le site, mais ce périmètre initial (correspondant à celui de la RNN) est trop limité pour permettre un fonctionnement optimal des écosystèmes. le maintien du pâturage sur le nouveau périmètre du site est une priorité de gestion. Du fait de son extension le site incorpore desormais des boisements de feuillus (notamment des hêtraies) qui constituent partiellement un habitat prioritaire et en totalité un habitat d'espèces prioritaires. La coupe non raisonnée de ces boisements est devenue un enjeu important sur le site. Le site est par aileurs exposé aux dégats que pourrait causer l'importance des effectifs de sangliers.

4.2 Quality and importance

La tourbière des Dauges occupe le fond d'une alvéole granitique. Cette tourbière, proche de Limoges, a été une des premières prospectées et fait l'objet d'un suivi scientifique depuis de nombreuses années (début des années 70). On y note la présence de nombreuses (plus de 90) espèces animales et végétales protégées sur le plan national et régional. La Tourbière des Dauges a de ce fait fait l'objet d'un classement en RNN. Le Comité de Pilotage du site Natura 2000 et le Comité Consultatif de la réserve nationale ont proposé l'extension du site Natura 2000 qui s'étend désormais sur 646 ha au centre desquels se trouve la RNN de la tourbière des Dauges.
