Other Site Characteristics

Le Plateau de Charpal est en grande partie boisé, mais il a conservé une concentration exceptionnelle de tourbières (complexe d'habitats prioritaires), dont les plus étendues de la Lozère, puisqu'elles peuvent couvrir jusqu'à 25 ha. Sensibilité des milieux tourbeux aux boisements en bordure de milieux humides et aux reboisements naturels à partir de plantations. Sensibilité aux drainages éventuels.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le plateau de Charpal est l'un des sites les plus intéressants d'Occitanie pour la conservation des complexes de tourbières : on y trouve en effet plusieurs stades de développement et des faciès de transition vers des prairies humides. Ces tourbières acides typiques sont associées à des landes et pelouses à Nard. C'est l'un des rares sites d'Occitanie où se trouve l'orchidée Hammarbya paludosa, à côté du Lycopode Lycopodium inundatum, très rare également La qualité des eaux permet la présence de la Loutre (Lutra lutra).
