Other Site Characteristics
| L'étang de Lapalme constitue l'un des maillons de la chaîne des lagunes qui caractérisent le littoral languedocien et roussillonnais. Un long cordon littoral très plat permet à la mer d'influencer fortement les milieux.
L'activité salinière autrefois très présente sur le site est en net déclin.
La proximité des stations touristiques du littoral et la fréquentation mal contrôlée des plages et du lido (accès aux plages et baignade) ainsi que de la lagune et de ses abords (planche à voile et autres sports de glisse) constituent les principales menaces, en particulier pour les espèces nichant au sol.
L'abandon de l'activité salinière pourrait entraîner une modification des conditions de salinité des milieux et, en conséquence, une perte de diversité des habitats d'oiseaux. |
4.2 Quality and importance
| Comme pour tous les étangs littoraux, ce sont surtout les formations plus ou moins salées en périphérie de la lagune qui présentent un intérêt majeur pour la nidification. en fonction du degré de salinité, et donc de la végétation, les espèces d'oiseaux se répartissent le territoire.
Le cordon dunaire, assez large localement, accueille aussi les espèces nichant au sol comme les sternes.
La ZPS inclut également les zones de garrigue sèche qui bordent l'étang au nord, du fait de leur intérêt pour la conservation de plusieurs espèces de passereaux méditerranéens, en complément des autres ZPS voisines (Basses Corbières, massif de La Clape, plateau de Leucate). |
