Site marin et côtier très intéressant de par sa structure : Falaises, golfe, bancs de sable, et de par sa végétation : yeuseraies climaciques, herbiers marins, végétations halonitrophiles. * forte fréquentation touristique et de loisirs, comme sur l'ensemble du littoral de la région PACA.

4.2 Quality and importance

Concernant la partie terrestre (environ 300 ha): Les milieux naturels, en mosaïque sur ce site, sont encore bien conservés et abritent diverses espèces patrimoniales. Les falaises abritent de très beaux groupements végétaux des falaises calcaires aérohalines, caractérisés par de nombreuses espèces rares. Découverte en 2011 d'un noyau de population insulaire (donc isolé et fragile) de Phyllodactyle d'Europe. Concernant la partie marine : Comprend les eaux côtières, pourvues de grands ensembles d'herbiers sur roches, témoins de la qualité de milieu, ainsi que divers autres habitats marins remarquables (coralligène, grottes sous-marines, etc.). Comprend également une extension au large (jusqu'à -1623 m) incluant des tombants et pentes, parfois abruptes, du canyon du Var au droit du cap, susceptibles de comporter certains types de récifs qui se rencontrent jusqu'à plus de 1000 mètres de profondeur (inventaire très incomplet au-delà de 100 m de profondeur). Ce secteur est régulièrement fréquenté par des troupes de taille variable de grands dauphins comme en témoignent les données récentes d'une campagne 2007 (Centre de recherche sur les Cétacés). La zone plus au large, au niveau des ruptures de pentes et des grands fonds est très régulièrement fréquentée par plusieurs autres espèces de mammifères marins (rorqual commun, cachalot, dauphin bleu et blanc).
