Other Site Characteristics

Substrats : calcaire et grès. Territoire relevant d'un seul bassin hydrographique. Bien que marquée par un étiage sensible en été, la Bendola est rarement à sec, à la différence des oueds de basse Roya. Secteur de transition : terminaison d'habitats liguro-provençaux et de type apenninique. Végétation dominante : hêtraie et sapinière-pessière. - fermeture des pelouses sèches par abandon de l'agriculture (fauche) - création de pistes forestières qui n'ont pas fait l'objet d'études préalables argumentées des impacts sur les milieux naturels - risque d'incendie

4.2 Quality and importance

Zone remarquable par sa richesse, son niveau d'endémisme exceptionnel, la concentration d'habitats remarquables et son bon état de conservation. Position charnière, à la fois dans les régions biogéographiques alpine et méditerranéenne. Fort contraste entre les ubacs et les adrets fortement soumis aux conditions xérophiles. Les pelouses sèches présentent une des plus fortes concentrations d'Orchidées du territoire national (une cinquantaine d'espèces, dont une quinzaine abondantes). Présence de tufs (habitat prioritaire) dans un état fonctionnel remarquable, abritant notamment un mollusque endémique (Macrogastra attenuata). Importance et diversité d'habitats forestiers d'intérêt communautaire, avec notamment la présence de forêts anciennes. Remarque : présence potentielle de l'habitat "Sapinières de tendance apennine à Abies alba et à Picea exelsa" (code corine 42.14). Cet habitat n'étant théoriquement pas présent en France (mais présent en Italie), le DOCOB l'a qualifié comme habitat d'espèce "sapinière montagnarde ligure à anémone trifoliée" (code corine 42.1113) : habitat majoritaire sur le site entre 1000 et 1500 m, ces sapinières présentent une singularité floristique et biogéographique, liées à leur tendance apenninique. Caractérisé par Albies alba, Ostrya carpinifolia et Anemone trifolia, c'est un habitat d'espèce pour la Buxbaumie verte (annexe II de la Directive habitats). Site d'importance régionale pour le Spélerpes de Strinati et pour plusieurs gîtes de reproduction de chiroptères. Remarque : de nombreux secteurs du site sont difficiles d'accès, du fait du relief (gorges) et de la végétation, conférant aux inventaires du DOCOB un caractère partiel (spélerpes, buxbaumie...).
