Other Site Characteristics

Espace naturel situé à proximité de l'agglomération de Toulon. Végétation dominée par des formations végétales rases et clairsemées. Paysage minéral profondément marqué par l'érosion : falaises calcaires, éboulis, crêtes dénudées. - fermeture des milieux, - dérangement des rapaces dans les falaises durant la nidification, par des activités humaines susceptibles de faire échouer la reproduction. Risque non négligeable du fait de la proximité de l'agglomération de Toulon. - présence de lignes électriques induisant un risque de mortalité par collision pour l'Aigle de Bonelli (notamment pour les jeunes oiseaux peu expérimentés).

4.2 Quality and importance

L'intérêt majeur du site est la présence d'un couple nicheur d'Aigle de Bonelli, espèce fortement menacée en France (environ 30 couples). Ce couple est le seul du département du Var et le Mont Caume constitue à ce jour la limite orientale de la population méditerranéenne francaise. Outre l'Aigle de Bonelli, quelques autres oiseaux d'intérêt communautaire nichent dans le site. Certaines espèces nichent hors du périmètre mais fréquentent le site pour s'alimenter : Circaète Jean-le-Blanc, Faucon pèlerin.
