Other Site Characteristics

Important for birds of the wetlands are the reed beds, usually dominated by Phragmites australis, being significantly more extensive in lake Cheimaditis than Zazari. Also, rooted submerged and floating vegetation (Potamogeton spp., Ceratophyllum sp., Myriophyllum spicatum, Zannichelia palustris, Vallisneria sp., Nymphaea alba etc.) occupy shallow waters.

4.2 Quality and importance

Lake Cheimaditida and Lake Zazari support a large number of nesting birds
