Other Site Characteristics

This site is not characterized by ecological variability as the natural environment of this site has been under human influence since ancient years. However, the landscape of the examined site consists of a complex mosaic of natural, semi-natural, and agricultural units. Referring to the vegetation of the area, one can notice the occurrence of pine forests, phrygana and macchie and olive trees, vineyards, orchards and other types of cultivated land, pastures and rocky areas.

4.2 Quality and importance

This site is not characterized by rare and endemic plant taxa or interesting vegetation types. Rather its importance is due, apart from the archaeological monuments, to the interesting fauna occurring there. The main reason for this is the landscape variability. The remaining vertebrate taxa are listed as Other Important Species in sections 3.3.
