The rocky islets (Georgiou, Strongyli, Chtenies and Karavolas) of southwest Rodos are also included. The majority of the area is covered by phrygana, conifer forest (Pinus brutia, Cupressus sempervirens) and maquis.Falco eleonorae population values are based on LIFE - Nature «Δράσεις προστασίας για τον Μαυροπετρίτη Falco eleonorae στην Ελλάδα» (LIFE03 NAT/GR/000091)

4.2 Quality and importance

It is an important area mainly for breeding raptors and species of open arid areas, as well as of seabirds. Priority species include: Phalacrocorax aristotelis, Buteo rufinus, Hieraaetus fasciatus, Falco eleonorae, Falco biarmicus, Falco peregrinus and Emberiza caesia. The area is considered to be of high importance for passage raptors (Circus spp., Falco naumanni, etc) and waterbirds.
