  • Group: A = Amphibians, B = Birds, F = Fish, I = Invertebrates, M = Mammals, P = Plants, R = Reptiles
  • S: in case that the data on species are sensitive and therefore have to be blocked for any public access enter: yes
  • NP: in case that a species is no longer present in the site enter: x (optional)
  • Type: p = permanent, r = reproducing, c = concentration, w = wintering (for plant and non-migratory species use permanent)
  • Unit: i = individuals, p = pairs or other units according to the Standard list of population units and codes in accordance with Article 12 and 17 reporting (see reference portal)
  • Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics

The area encompasses upper strech of Drava river (from Terezino polje to Donji Miholjac). This is the only extensive area in Croatia with well-developed gravel banks, bars and islands. The river system includes many small tributaries, oxbow lakes, ponds and gravel pits. The area also comprises pedunculate oak forest Repaš, riverine forests (willow and poplar) and agricultural land. It is one of the most important breeding areas for Common and Little Tern. This SPA is a part of Regional Park Mura-Drava that includes the whole section of Mura and Drava rivers in Croatia. Regional Park is included in the Croatian-Hungarian part of the planned 5-Country UNESCO Biosphere Reserve "Mura-Drava-Danube", which was officially approved by UNESCO's Man and Biosphere Committee in Paris in 2011. The SPA includes part of special reserve Veliki Pažut and significant landscape Čambina.

4.2 Quality and importance

- Information on BD Annex I birds population sizes and National Red List species was provided by the Institute for Ornithology (Zavod za ornitologiju, 2013). Numbers presented refer to estimations or exact data based as much as possible on recent surveys (data provided by the Institute staff and their field-work associates) - Population sizes of non-Annex I regularly occurring migratory waterbirds that represent target features of the SPA area have not been estimated. There is no data available for concentrations. The area was poorly covered by International Waterbird Census for Croatia. There should be a survey aimed at registering ‘zero' numbers for each species as the basis for further monitoring of SPA target features - SPA Gornji tok Drave is the most important site in Continental region of Croatia for breeding of Sterna albifrons and Sterna hirundo – both species are highly dependent on habitats of river gravel banks and islands; in some years there was no breeding of terns registered - - SPA Gornji tok Drave holds 33% of national breeding population of Luscinia svecica that in Croatia nests only in the Drava – Danube area - SPA Gornji tok Drave holds 52% of national breeding population of Actitis hypoleucos (National Red List species, highly connected to habitats of river gravel banks and islands) - SPA Gornji tok Drave holds 6% of national breeding population of Riparia riparia (National Red List species, highly connected to habitats of unregulated river banks)
