  • Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics

The boundaries of the site correspond with the boundaries of Kornati National Park and Telašćica Nature Park. The area consists of many islands, islets, shallow sea and bays, but also of high cliffs suitable for breeding Shags, raptors and swifts. Allepo pine groves and maquis are best developed in Telašćica, while Kornati are mostly covered by xeric grasslands. Lithostratigraphic units represented in this area are rudist limestones (cenomanian-maastricht - K21-6) and liburnian sediments, foraminiferal limestones and transitional sediments (upper paleocene, lower and middle eocene - Pc, E1, 2)l). Soils: brown soil on limestone, anthropogenic soil on karst and rocky ground. The relief is a consequence of the geological characteristics of the area and were created by sea transgression after the last glaciation; typical Dinaric direction of spreading of all relief formations (NE-SW); before sinking, Telašćica bay was dry field with three sinkholes; presence of process of abrasion; lake Mir is a flooded bay, size of 960 x 300 m and depth of up to 8 m; famous cliffs of the Donji Kornati were formed by faulting, also presence of process of abrasion; many speleological objects.

4.2 Quality and importance

- The boundaries of the site correspond with the boundaries of neighbouring protected areas of Kornati National Park and Telašćica Nature Park - Information on birds population sizes was provided by the Institute for Ornithology (Zavod za ornitologiju, 2013). Numbers presented refer to estimations or exact data based as much as possible on recent surveys (data provided by the Institute staff and their field-work associates) - SPA NP Kornati i PP Telašćica is one of the three most important sites for Phalacrocorax aristotelis desmarestii in Croatia (12,5% of national population) - SPA NP Kornati i PP Telašćica holds 8,8% of national population of Falco peregrines and 2,25% of Bubo bubo - SPA NP Kornati i PP Telašćica holds the largest colonies in natural habitats in Croatia of Apus pallidus illyricus - a subspecies that is distributed only on eastern Adriatic coast (Ćiković et al., 2006)
