Other Site Characteristics

Danube and the narrow coastal strip downstream of Osijek and Vukovar to the border with the Republic of Serbia. Lowland. Lithostratigraphic units represented in this area are holocene alluvial deposits (gravel, sand, silt and clay) and deluvial-proluvial deposits (silt, sand and gravel). Alluvial terraces of the Danube river were formed during the accumulation-erosion caused by the water flow. They are a morphological units influenced by neotectonic movements that formed micro relief floodplain. Appearance of meanders, stagnation and ada are characteristic for riverbeds. Soils represented in this area are mollic and calcaric fluvisols (gravel and sands).

4.2 Quality and importance

- important site for Lutra lutra - important site for fish species Aspius aspius, Gymnocephalus baloni, Gymnocephalus schraetser, Pelecus cultratus, Eudontomyzon mariae and Zingel zingel - important site for butterfly species Lycaena dispar - the site is important for the conservation of Graphoderus bilineatus in Croatia - the site is important for the conservation of Ophiogomphus cecilia in the Continental Biogeographical Region - one of only four sites for habitat type 3270 - important site for 91E0, As Salici-Populetum nigrae and As Populetum nigrae-albae
