Other Site Characteristics

Crni jarki are located in central Croatia, in the middle of the Podravina 5-6 km southeast of Đurđevac. Due to the geographic location, climate of the area has a continental climate characteristics. The majority of the area is covered by forests due to which part of the area is protected as a forest reserve. Of woody species dominate Fraxinus angustifolia and Alnus glutinosa in the layer of low trees and shrubs Prunus padus. Groundwater levels that there is very high, it is crucial for the maintenance of plant communities in the forest area. Lithostratigraphic units represented in this area are holocene aeolian sands and alluvial deposits. It is a wetland area where groundwater lever is very high. Dominant soil in this area is marsh gley partially hydromeliorated.
