Other Site Characteristics

Stream Ričica arises from several karst springs in the area between Lovinac and Gornja Ploča. The water in the river basin comes from surface streams and springs. Left tributaries are streams Suvaja and Banica that flow in Ričica near Lovinac. Ričica also gathers waters from Obsenica through artifical channel that connects Ričica with accumulation lake near Sv. Rok. Stream Ričica naturally sinks in field Stikada, mostly through sinkholes Jelar and Tučić, but also through several smaller sinkholes (e.g. sinkholes Krcici, Drecin). In the field Stikada a dam was built on Ricica river that created accumulation lake Stikada which serves as compensation basin for hydropower plant Velebit in Obrovac.

4.2 Quality and importance

- one of three sites important for Croatian endemic species, Telestes (Phoxinellus) croaticus, inhabited with more of 15% of total population - this is the only site is important for conservation of Unio crassus in the Alpine Biogeographical Region.
