Other Site Characteristics

Site is situated north from Kopački rit and is covering Danube river with important amphibian vegetation and vast alluvial forests alog the river. Remnants of pannonic vegetation are also present and distributed on Banovo brdo area and on steep loess area near Zmajevac and Batina. Loess slopes near Zmajevac are the only locality of Iris pumila in Croatia. Loess slopes near Batina are the only locality of Allium flavum in Croatia. The area is important site for conservation of many fish species that inhabit this part of Danube, otter, butterflies that inhabit marshland along the Danube and bat species which inhabit an old mine on Banovo brdo. Lithostratigraphic units represented in this area are pleistocene land loess and fluvial deposits, holocene marsh deposits and alluvial deposits. It is a part of Vukovar loess plateau. Presence of fluvial and derasion process. Dominated soils are fluvisol, rigolano on loess and partially hidromeliorated marsh-grey.

4.2 Quality and importance

- the area is considered to support a significant presence of Lutra lutra - the site is considered to support significant presence of butterfly species Lycaena dispar - the site is of importance for the conservation of Coenagrion ornatum in the Continental Biogeographical Region - the site is important for the conservation of Graphoderus bilineatus in Croatia. - the site is of importance for the conservation of Leucorrhinia pectoralis in the Continental Biogeographical Region - one of several sites for habitat type 6240* in Croatia - one of only four sites for habitat type 3270 - important site for 91E0, As Galio-Salicetum albae - important site for fish species Aspius aspius, Eudontomyzon mariae, Gymnocephalus baloni, Gymnocephalus schraetser, Pelecus cultratus, Romanogobio vladykovi and Zingel zingel - the easternmost known Myotis blythii nursery and wintering site for the continental biogeographical region in Croatia - important Miniopterus schreibersii and Rhinolophus ferrumequinum nursery and migration site - internationally important underground site for Rhinolophus ferrumequinum and Miniopterus schreibersii
