Other Site Characteristics

The site is situated in the center of Istria peninsula, near the town Pazin, more precisely settlement Vela Traba. It is characterized by wooded canyon part of torrential stream Draga and surrounding area with garrigue, macchia, meadows, arable land, sinkholes and small villages. Lithostratigraphic units represented in this area are rudist limestones (cenomanian-maastricht - K21-6), alluvial sediments (b-aQ2). Soils: brown soil on limestone, loessivized and typical deep terra rossa. The relief is result of dynamic geotectonic relations, hydrogeological conditions, climate and anthropogenic influences.

4.2 Quality and importance

- one of only two sites for species Eriogaster catax in Mediterranean biogeographic region - the site is important for butterfly species Euphydryas aurinia and day-flying moth species Euplagia quadripunctaria - the site is important for saproxylic beetles Cerambyx cerdo, Morimus funereus and Lucanus cervus
