Other Site Characteristics
| Slano Bay is located about 25 km northwest from Dubrovnik. The bay is about 2.5 km long and has the southeast-northwest direction. It is a large shallow bay with a well-developed community of Posidonia oceanica. The northern part of a bay is mostly built and the Ston town is located there. Ston town has is a small harbor and anchorage for yachts in a sheltered bay Banja and a larger yachts can anchor in front of the Slano Bay entrance, southwest of the Cape Gornji.
Lithostratigraphic units represented around area are triassic dolomite, cretaceous rudist limestones, liburnian sediments, foraminiferal limestones and transitional sediments (upper paleocene, lower and middle eocene - Pc, E1, 2), flysch sediments (middle and upper eocene - E2, 3). Bay was created after the transgression of the sea after the last glaciation. Presence of abrasion processes. |
