Other Site Characteristics

The site includes a bay on south of Istria characterized by beaches with sandy bottom, undersea reefs and marine caves. The site is a habitation of Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) and Posidonia (Posidonion oceanicae). Lithostratigraphic unit represented around bay is rudist limestones (cenomanian-maastricht - K21-6). Soils around the bay: eutric brown soil, brown soil on limestone, loessivized terra rossa. The bay and islands were formed by sea transgression after the last glaciation; presence of processes of abrasion.
