Other Site Characteristics

Mostly floodplain between tha Danube and the dyke system. The site contains several types of wet habitats: the main course of the Danube, branches, oxbow-lakes, marshes, reedbeds and other backwater bodies. The major part of the site is covered by forest, softwood galery forest on the lower and hardwood galery forest on the higher surfaces. There are several tree plantations, too.

4.2 Quality and importance

Prioritsok: Kiemelt fontossg cl a kvetkezo fajok kedvezo termszetvdelmi helyzetnek fenntartsa: Nagy kcsag (Egretta alba), Rtisas (Haliaeetus albicilla), Barna knya (Milvus migrans), Darzslyv (Pernis apivorus), Kzp fakopncs (Dendrocopos medius), Balkni fakopncs (Dendrocopos syriacus), Fekete harkly (Dryocopus martius). Kiemelt fontossg cl a kvetkezo fajok kedvezo termszetvdelmi helyzetnek helyrelltsa: Fekete glya (Ciconia nigra), Kis kcsag (Egretta garzetta). This site contains the biggest active floodplain in Hungary. Almost the whole area is covered by forest (Salix and Populus dominated softwood riparian forest; oak- ash - ulm hardwood galery forest; tree plantation with Salix, Poplar and Juglans nigra species. There are several branches and oxbow-lakes and other types of backwater ensure feeding and breeding places for lot of bird species (Ardeidae and Ciconiidae). The oldest, undisturbed parts of the forest contains the nest of Ciconia nigra, Haliaetus albicilla, Milvus migrans. This site contains the most dense Ciconia nigra population in Hungary. Wintertime the main course of the river is very important wintering place of Anatidae species. The site with the second largest river of Europe is part of the migratory route of several species e. g. Ciconia nigra, Anser spp..
