The site contains the bed of Tisza river and its active floodplain. The main ecological asset of the site is the river. The river-bed is very diverse, the bottom is varied from gravel to sand and mud depending on the speed of the current. The water is relatively clear. The level character of the river alters significantly at Tiszabecs-Tivadar reach. The pebbled bedded river (epipotamon = barbel level) with many distributaries, reef and rapids becomes a bending flatland river up to Tiszabecs (metapotamon = bream level). Since the regulations started the fall of the river has increased remarkably because of the bed shortening, so its bed is continuously deepening. As a result of the natural course of development of Tisza riverbed (meandering) and the regulations lots of oxbow-lakes and dead-beds have been developed. They are merely situated in the active floodplain but many of them got outside the dams. Most of the marshes in this area were formed from these dead-beds by the natural succession.

6.3 Conservation measures (optional)
| Általános célkitűzések: A Natura 2000 terület természetvédelmi célkitűzése az azon található, a kijelölés alapjául szolgáló fajok és élőhelytípusok kedvező természetvédelmi helyzetének megőrzése, fenntartása, helyreállítása, valamint a Natura 2000 területek lehatárolásának alapjául szolgáló természeti állapot és a kedvező természetvédelmi állapottal összhangban lévő gazdálkodás feltételeinek biztosítása.
Specifikus célok és végrehajtandó intézkedések:
- A területen lévő holtmedrek kedvező ökológiai állapotban való megőrzésének stratégiájának kidolgozása. A jelenleg folyó, gyorsuló ütemű biotikus és abiotikus öregedés ellen konzervációs intézkedések kidolgozása és foganatosítása.;
- A még jó ökológiai állapotban lévő hullámtéri gyepek rendszeres, okszerű hasznosítását hosszú távon (legeltetés, kaszálás) meg kell oldani, a beerdősítés csak legvégső esetben, és akkor is csak természetszerű erdővé alakítható célállománnyal fogadható el.
- Az inváziós növények nagy kiterjedésű homogén állományait (főként a gyalogakácosok), rendszeres kaszálással gyepként kell fenntartani, vagy át kell alakítani természetszerű erdővé.
- A területen található erdők esetében javasolt a véderdő funkciót előtérbe helyezni a gazdasági rendeltetéssel szemben.
- A keményfa ligeterdők esetében fokozatos átállás valamely folyamatos erdőborítást biztosító művelési módra.
- Tájidegen fafajú állományok fokozatos átalakítása természetszerű erdőállományokká.
- A természetszerű erdőkben az erdészeti beavatkozások (főként tarvágás) esetében idős, odvasodó faegyedek (fehér és feketenyár), valamint holt faanyag meghagyása;
- Az élet- és vagyonbiztonságot figyelembe véve a meder speciális élőhelytípust jelentő elemeinek (palajok, zátonyok, szakadópartok), illetve a vízparti zonáció (partél - bokorfüzes - ligeterdő) megőrzése.
- A site területére eső folyószakaszt a jelölő folyóvizi fajok (körszájú, hal, rovar, puhatestű) ökológiai igényeinek megfelelő állapotban kell megőrizni, az élőhely átalakítása (pl. áramlási viszonyok megváltoztatása mederduzzasztással, nagy mértékű mederalakítás, kanyarátvágás) nem elfogadható.
- A területre eső folyószakasz a jelölő folyóvízi (hal, rovar, puhatestű) fajok ökológiai igényeinek megfelelő állapotban való megőrzése, az élőhely védelme az áramlási viszonyok megváltoztatásával, mederduzzasztással, nagymértékű mederalakítással, kanyarátvágással járó átalakításokkal szemben.
- (Díszes tarkalepke élőhelyeken) a keményfás ligeterdők természetközeli állapotban való megtartása, tarvágásos véghasználatok elkerülése, a lágyszárú- és cserjeszint háborítatlanságának biztosítása, a természetes erdőszegélyek fenntartása.
