Other Site Characteristics

The area is located at the Vas Hills. The potential vegetation on this dry plateau character area was the turkey oak - sessile oak while in the neighbouring valleys was hornbeam and oak. Here today are semi-natural woodlands mainly. The relative undisturbed state of the drill-ground at Vát was owing to the military presence. The area is presently a grassland with spontaneously colonising shrubs with a turkey oak - sessile oak spot on its end. Certain parts are grazed presently. The Kőris Brook is flowing next to it, and a small storage reservoir is established on it. Presently the Army does not using it.

4.2 Quality and importance

Kiemelt fontosságú cél a következő fajok/élőhelytípusok kedvező természetvédelmi hely-zetének fenntartása: Élőhelyek: (magyar név, kód): Európai száraz fenyérek 4030 Sík- és dombvidéki kaszálórétek (Alopecurus pratensis, Sanguisorba officinalis) 6510 Boróka (Juniperus communis)-formációk fenyéreken vagy mészkedvelő gyepekben 5130 Fajok: (magyar név, tudományos név) Sárga gyapjasszövő (Eriogaster catax) On the soil - being wounded by the tanks - and in the emplacements watery habitats with permanent water coverage have formed serving as mating place for amphibians. Besides, in the pits drying in the summer, Nanocyperetalia communities have formed. The butterfly and longicorn fauna is rich, several rare species occur. Alder groves and accentuated turkey oak - sessile oak woodlands provide home for numerous protected birds e.g. collared flycatcher (Ficedula albicollis), tawny owl (Srix aluco), middle-spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopus medius).

Általános célkitűzések: A Natura 2000 terület természetvédelmi célkitűzése az azon található, a kijelölés alapjául szolgáló fajok és élőhelytípusok kedvező természetvédelmi helyzetének megőrzése, fenntartása, helyreállítása, valamint a Natura 2000 területek lehatárolásának alapjául szolgáló természeti állapot és a kedvező természetvédelmi állapottal összhangban lévő gazdálkodás feltételeinek biztosítása. A termőhely adottságai és a terület korábbi hasznosítása által kialakult fenyérek, cserjés és borókás társulások jelenlegi kedvező természetvédelmi helyzetének fenn-tartása, fejlesztése. A sárga gyapjasszövő (Eriogaster catax) nemzetközi viszonylatban is jelentős ál-lományának fenntartása. Specifikus célok: Töviskés cserjés (kökény, galagonya, vadkörte) állományok, csoportok fenntartása, kímélete, emellett záródásuk megakadályozása, rendszeres gyérítéssel (a boróka kí-méletével). The nature protection goal is to maintain and increase the grazed area. Shrub colonization should be prevented and forced back. Army presence on the area is not condemnable. Clear-cut of the forests should be prevented. The economical benefit of the thin, scruffy trees - wounded by missiles - is not significant.
