Other Site Characteristics

Site comprises a disused section of the Grand Canal at Dangans Bridge, approximately 3 km east of Mountmellick in Co. Laois. The habitat is fen type vegetation, with Typha latifolia, Glyceria maxima and Iris pseudacorus. At present, the site is not used for any particular activity.

4.2 Quality and importance

Site contains a relict population of Vertigo moulinsiana. Confirmed record for 1997. Typical wetland habitat. All recently surveyed sites with confirmed populations of this speceis are considered important.
