Il sito comprende uno dei pochi laghi subalpini oligotrofici, dominato da un modesto rilievo (circa 700 m di altitudine) le cui pendici sono ricoperte da boschi di caducifoglie e, sul versante meridionale, segnate da profonde incisioni del substrato roccioso affiorante.
