Other Site Characteristics
| Sito coincidente con il Parco regionale del Mont-Avic (istituito con l.r. 19.10.1989, n. 66 e ampliato con decreto del 16 maggio 2003 n. 390) nel settore sud orientale della Valle d'Aosta, in vicinanza del Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso.
Il sito comprende i 3 ambienti caratterizzanti il Parco: gli ambienti ofiolitici di alta quota, le torbiere e le foreste di latifoglie e conifere.
Il primo ambiente è presente nei valloni e conche d'alta quota che costituiscono la testata del bacino del torrente Chalamy. Il substrato roccioso è costituito in gran parte da Ofioliti della Zona Piemontese (serpentiniti e sepentinoscisti). Si caratterizza per la presenza di laghi glaciali d'alta quota, tra cui il più esteso lago della regione, e di vaste superfici rocciose di esarazione glaciale; la prateria alpina è assai localizzata; interessante la flora igrofila.
Le numerose torbiere sono presenti in siti di dimensioni medio-piccole in gran parte distribuiti nel piano montano e subalpino lungo il versante destro della valle del Torrente Chalamy nelle numerose piccole conche di esarazione glaciale.
Infine le foreste occupano unampia fascia montana e subalpina posta lungo i versanti della Valle del Torrente Chalamy.
Il clima presenta livelli di piovosità assai alti rispetto al settore centrale della regione, caratterizzato da una ben più marcata continentalità. L'influenza climatica piemontese è infatti qui ancora evidente.
L'ampliamento, compreso nell'estremo sud-occidentale della Valle di Champorcher, presenta caratteristiche di elevata naturalità, paesaggi spettacolari e rari legati ai laghi di origine glaciale, grande varietà geologica, un popolamento faunistico particolarmente ricco e diversificato e un notevole interesse botanico. |
4.2 Quality and importance
| Il sito è caratterizzato dalla vasta diffusione delle serpentiniti e della relativa flora. Le torbiere ospitano ambienti relitti ricchi di specie boreali ormai rare o in via di estinzione sulle Alpi.
Il sito comprende inoltre uno dei nuclei più interni di popolamento di Faggio che vive qui in condizioni relitte, al limite climatico del suo areale, in conseguenza del progressivo aumento della continentalità subito dal clima della regione. Il bosco di Pino uncinato è dominante nel piano subalpino, dove sostituisce quasi completamente le foreste normalmente diffuse in questo settore delle Alpi. Al centro del vallone è presente un bosco da seme di Pino uncinato.
Nella zona ampliata, dal punto di vista faunistico si evidenzia una consistente presenza di ungulati di montagna (stambecchi e camosci). Di particolare valore storico e scientifico risulta il nucleo di stambecchi della Tersiva, caratterizzato da particolari aspetti morfologici e costituente un ceppo isolato rispetto al nucleo del Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso. Dal punto di vista botanico risulta essere uno dei siti più interessanti non solo della regione ma dell'intera catena alpina, vista la grande varietà floristica, le specie rare e gli endemismi. |
