Other Site Characteristics

Lago situato in una piccola conca pensile di origine glaciale posta in sinistra orografica della bassa valle centrale. Apporto idrico diffuso proveniente dalle falde detritiche poste alla base delle pareti rocciose circostanti e occasionalmente da un canale irriguo; presenza di un piccolo emissario verso sud-est. Substrato roccioso costituito da micascisti e prasiniti del Complesso a calcescisti e pietre verdi della Zona Piemontese. La vegetazione circostante è caratterizzata da boschi di Pino silvestre e Roverella e da Castagneti da frutto. Sito molto frequentato durante il periodo estivo. L'habitat 6210 è prioritario perchè caratterizzato da fioriture di orchidee.

Unica stazione valdostana di Nymphaea alba L. subsp. alba. Interessante contrasto tra l'ambiente xerotermico della conca e l'ambiente umido dello stagno.
