Other Site Characteristics

Il sito rientra nell'Unità di Sanremo - M. Saccarello (Flysch di Sanremo) e presenta litotipi arenacei, marnosi, calcarei, argillitici; in lenta emersione appaiono calcari dolomitici giurassici. L'elemento geomorfologico di maggiore rilievo è la linea di crinale che, raccordandosi con il crinale sudorientale del M. Fronté, sale alla massima culminazione del M. Mònega (m. 1881), per poi ridiscendere gradualmente, biforcandosi verso est (monti Poggio Pian Latte, Bisciaire, Prearba, Ciazza del Bauso) e verso sud (M. Bussana, Cima di Donzella, M. Arbarea, Carmo dei Brocchi).

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito ricade in una vasta area montana nella quale praterie e boschi di caducifoglie sono più o meno equamente suddivisi; la pastorizia è ancora intensamente presente e svolge un ruolo importante nel mantenimento di un elevato livello di biodiversità e nella conservazione di specie animali appartenenti agli anelli superiori delle catene alimentari. I boschi invece, in buona misura abbandonati, appaiono in corso di evoluzione. Sono presenti habitat di interesse prioritario ai sensi della direttiva 92/43 CEE, uccelli di interesse comunitario, numerosi endemiti (in particolare nella fascia di calcari più duri) e specie rare o protette da direttive/convenzioni internazionali.
