La zona è caratterizzata da una alternaza di culminazioni e zone di fondovalle profondamente incise. Sono presenti forme a terrazzo di varia origine e fasce terrazzate. Nell'area affiorano substrati ofiolitici.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito comprende habitat con caratteristiche di unicità, legate ai substrati ofiolitici: pseudomacchia e pseudogariga a Buxus, Genista salzmannii, Alyssum bertolonii ed altre metallofite e specie floristiche endemiche o rare. Alcuni habitat e specie sono stati proposti dalla Regione Liguria per l'inclusione negli All. I e II della Direttiva (ad esempio Alyssum bertolonii, endemico, indicatore, raro, ad areale fortemente disgiunto); nel sito sono presenti endemiti di rilievo ed habitat prioritari per la direttiva 92/43 CEE
