Il Sito è costituito da un lago poco profondo formato dal Fiume Adda. È contornato, a tratti, da vegetazione di tipo palustre con piccoli boschi meso igrofili di latifoglie.

4.2 Quality and importance

"Il sito risulta significativo, da un punto di vista naturalistico, soprattutto per le specie di avifauna acquatica, alcune di interesse comunitario. Risulta molto importante per lo svernamento di alcune specie (es. fologa, moriglione, moretta) che, benchè comuni, sostano nel Sito con nuclei di centinaia di individui. Fino a qualche anno fà nel Sito erano segnalati lembi di paludi basiche a Carex davalliana. Al momento queste formazioni non sono state ritrovate, e si suppone che siano andate perdute per cause antropiche o naturali. La vegetazione ripariale non inserita al punto 3.1 è formata in massima parte da canneto. Le specie elencate al punto 3.3 sotto D, sono essenze elencate nella lista delle specie protette a livello regionale." La presenza di Barbus caninus/meridionalis è da intendersi saltuaria e casuale. La specie non fa parte della comunità ittica stabilmente presente negli ambienti acquatici del SIC
