Other Site Characteristics

Il sito comprende il bacino della Val di Pila, uno dei solchi vallivi secondari che intagliano la testata della Val Belviso, a sua volta tributaria della Valtellina sul versante settentrionale delle Alpi Orobie. La morfologia è quella classica di una valle modellata dai ghiacci ed i segni del glacialismo antico sono ancora oggi ben visibili nelle rocce montonate che caratterizzano molti tratti della testata e nel grande terrazzo che sostiene i pascoli di Malga Pila. Le Alpi Orobie fanno parte, da un punto di vista stratigrafico, del complesso Sudalpino o delle Alpi Meridionali. La porzione inferiore della vallata compresa nel sito è modellata su rocce metamorfiche antichissime del Paleozoico (filladi e micascisti degli Scisti di Edolo) appartenenti al cosiddetto Basamento Cristallino, mentre tutte le cime della testata sono intagliate nelle rocce del Sedimentario Subalpino, arenarie, siltiti, argilliti della Formazione di Collio, di origine Permo-Triassica.

Il sito è caratterizzato da una buona diversità di habitat malgrado unestensione non molto rilevante e tutti gli habitat si presentano in un buono od eccellente stato di conservazione, grazie anche allassenza di rilevanti elementi di disturbo di qualunque origine. Il sito si caratterizza, inoltre, per una buona varietà e ricchezza floristica, impreziosita da specie rare o non comuni per il territorio orobico ed arricchita da specie notoriamente basifile ed inconsuete per il territorio orobico, la cui presenza è dovuta alle rocce del sedimentario Subalpino che costituiscono le cime alla testata della valle e che contengono una seppur minima frazione di carbonati.
