4.2 Quality and importance
| Il sito rappresenta uno dei rari casi di bosco acidofilo di latifoglie tuttora presente in pianura. Si tratta di una vegetazione relitta che si imposta su suoli di natura argillosa ("ferretto"). Sebbene lo stato di conservazione non sia ottimale a causa del disturbo antropico e della presenza delle specie esotiche infestanti, la cenosi appare abbastanza ben caratterizzata per la presenza degli elementi distintivi (betulla, farnia, rovere, pino silvestre). L'altro habitat di interesse conservazionistico è la brughiera, presente al Parco delle Groane, importante perchè contiene specie protette (tra cui Gentiana pneumonanthe, Salix rosmarinifolia) e perchè è un habitat estremamente rarefatto in pianura. Il mantenimento della brughiera dipende strettamente dalla manutenzione dell'uomo, che con il taglio selettivo degli arbusti ne consente la sopravvivenza. Tra la fauna si segnala la presenza di una varia e ben strutturata comunità ornitica, soprattutto di specie forestali, con alcune emergenze come il Falco Pecchiaiolo e lo Sparviere, entrambe nidificanti. E' inoltre presente lo Scoiattolo, in uno degli ultimi siti di pianura dove questa specie è rimasta. Infine si segnala la recente individuazione del raro lepidottero Maculinea alcon, il cui ciclo riproduttivo presenta uno stretto e singolare legame con la formica Myrmica ruginodis. |
