4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito riveste un discreto interesse naturalistico, poiché è situato in una zona povera dal punto di vista delle biocenosi, costituendo quindi l'ultimo residuo di ecosistemi naturali circondati da una vasta matrice territoriale agricola ed urbanizzata. Si rinvengono comunque habitat piuttosto degradati in seguito non solo all'invasione della robinia nelle cenosi boschive, ma di rovi (che spesso hanno coperture elevatissime) nelle zone di boscaglia o di radura. Mentre quindi per i boschi è possibile ravvisare comunità fitosociologicamente definite (saliceti, querco-carpineti), all'interno delle radure non è possibile l'individuazione di alcun taxon fitosociologico preciso. Inoltre ecosistemi umidi ancora sufficientemente presenti sino ad una decina di anni fa sono ormai notevolmente ridotti ed interrati, riducendo notevolmente la presenza di specie faunistiche legati a tali habitat (es. Ardeidi, Sternidi). L'area sta quindi evolvendo verso situazioni mesofile, con prevalenza di arbusteti. Da almeno un decennio non è stata più confermata la nidificazione di Sylvia nisoria, per la quale l'Oasi di Lacchiarella costituiva l'unico sito riproduttivo della provincia di Milano. Il sito è invece importante anche come area di sosta e svernamento per molte specie ornitiche migratrici e svernanti.
