Elevata dinamicità delle comunità vegetali igrofile Si segnala la presenza degli habitat Corine 22.43 e 53.21.

4.2 Quality and importance

Raro esempio di rinaturalizzazione di ambiente estrattivo nell'alta pianura lombarda e sito di rilevante importanza naturalistica, sia per la presenza di specie vegetali rare nell'ambito planiziale padano, che per la varietà di habitat idro-igrofili tipici della pianura e ormai scarsamente diffusi. E' presente nel sito la Ludwigia palustris, appartenente alla lista rossa nazionale. Significativa la presenza dell'ornitofauna, che annovera anche specie di interesse comunitario, e dell'erpetofauna (es Rana Latastei, Triturus carnifex). In particolare, per quanto riguarda l'ornitofauna, è accertata la nidificazione di 2 specie SPEC2 e 4 specie SPEC 3. Il sito svolge un ruolo strategico per la continuità ecosistemica e biologica in collegamento funzionale con il vicino corridoio biologico del corso del fiume Adda.
