Other Site Characteristics

L'area presenta una superficie di circa 241 ettari, di cui 121 di specchi d'acqua e 120 di canneto. È il più grande lago provinciale, con una lunghezza di circa 2 km e larghezza di 1 km, ed una profondità massima di 5-6 m. I fondali sono caratterizzati da praterie di Najas marina, mentre lungo le fasce a canneto crescono Nymphaea alba e Nuphar lutea. Nella parte sud del lago si estende un vasto fragmiteto, alternato a rade formazioni di Cladium mariscus e Carex elata. Come rappresentanti dell'associazione Scheuzerio-Caricetea nigrae, si rinvengono piccole formazioni di Schoenus nigricans, Triglochin palustre. Molto estesi sono inoltre i molineti.Una parte del canneto è attualmente in fase di colonizzazione da parte di formazioni arbustive (Salici-Franguletum).

4.2 Quality and importance

L'unica zona umida di rilevanti dimensioni tra il confine austriaco e la provincia di Verona. Nell'area caratterizzata da complesse biocenosi si rinviene un ricco popolamento d'anfibi ed avifauna durante i passi. Qui si rinviene inoltre l'unico sito conosciuto di Cladium mariscus in Alto Adige e si è riprodotto il beccaccino (Gallinago gallinago).
