Other Site Characteristics

Alta montagna centro-alpina a roccia per la maggior parte acida. In alcune aree si trovano vene calcaree e marmoree con una particolare vegetazione. Nelle due valli piú lunghe, la Val Martello e la Val d Ultimo, sboccano numerose vallette formate dall'attività glaciale. Il fondo di queste vallette è generalmente posto ad una quota più elevata di quello della valle principale, per cui le valette sono spesso sospese e abbastanza isolate. La vegetazione è rappresentativa della regione centro-alpina: estese foreste subalpine del tipo Larici-Cembretum, prati alpini del tipo Nardetum e Curvuletum.

Si tratta di una zona molto estesa con un paesaggio centro-alpino tipico e attraente. Oltre a ghiacciai estesi e a grandissime morene la zona è ricca di vallette d alta quota alte e quiete con una flora e fauna abbastanza integra. Grazie alla sua estenzione e alla sua parziale integrità il sito deve essere considerato come un importante rifugio per la flora e fauna alpina.
