Other Site Characteristics

Complesso di torbiere sui rilievi montuosi dell'alta Val di Non sviluppate in posizione di pendio, di sella e in un circo glaciale a morfologia poco accentuata, tutte in vaste radure nel bosco di abete rosso e larice. La vegetazione è quella delle torbiere piane fonticole, delle torbiere di transizione e delle torbiere alte; sul bordo esterno di alcune torbiere sono presenti anche lembi di pecceta su torba (torbiere boscate).

4.2 Quality and importance

Sito di eccezionale interesse, per le numerose e vaste torbiere sparse nella pecceta, in parte sviluppata sugli strati torbosi (esempio di taiga alpina), assolutamente raro in tutto il versante meridionale delle Alpi. Si tratta di un biotopo di vitale importanza per la riproduzione di molte specie di anfibi e rettili, nonchè di interesse ornitologico per la presenza di specie tipiche dell'avifauna alpina.
