Other Site Characteristics

Area dolomitica situata in ambiente marcatamente prealpino, caratterizzata da guglie e vasti ghiaioni intervallati da praterie alpine e mughete; nelle parti più basse sono presenti significativi lembi di faggeta. Il sito comprende anche il sottogruppo del Baffelan. Sono presenti habitat di particolare interesse non compresi nell'all.I della direttiva 92/43/CEE: vallette nivali (Arabidion coeruleae).

4.2 Quality and importance

Area a naturalità elevata che rappresenta il limite occidentale di numerose specie a gravitazione orientale. E' presente un significativo gruppo di specie endemiche. Il sito è di rilevante interesse nazionale e/o provinciale per la presenza e la riproduzione di specie animali in via di estinzione, importanti relitti glaciali, esclusive e/o tipiche delle Alpi. Presenza di invertebrati legati a boschi maturi e integri di latifoglie.
