Other Site Characteristics

Vallata endoalpina a notevole variabilità di substrato (calcare, dolomia, basalti). Il sito interessa soprattutto la destra idrografica, occupata in basso dai boschi di conifere con pino cembro, in alto da praterie pingui ricche di specie. Sono comprese anche aree di cresta e di vetta della fascia alpina. Sono presenti habitat di particolare interesse non compresi nell'all.I della direttiva 92/43/CEE: ampie distese a Festuca varia ricche di specie (Festucion variae:Festucetum variae, Knautio-Trifolietum thalii) (30%).

4.2 Quality and importance

Ricchezza floristica, presenza di specie rare (zona di Forcella Paschè-Colle Ombert) e aspetti vegetazionali e paesaggistici di rilievo (si pensi alle cembrete a picco sulle pittoresche rupi di Mearins) giustificano ampiamente la designazione del sito. Il sito è di rilevante interesse nazionale e/o provinciale per la presenza e la riproduzione di specie animali in via di estinzione, importanti relitti glaciali, esclusive e/o tipiche delle Alpi.
