Other Site Characteristics

Il sito è caratterizzato dalla presenza di due specchi d'acqua derivanti dal ripristino naturalistico di vecchie cave e di alcuni degli ultimi residui di prati epifiti permanenti (prati stabili) della provincia di Parma, alcuni dei quali hanno un'età di oltre un secolo. Importanti sono anche le rimanenze dei filari di alberi che delimitavano gli appezzamenti di terra e che sono costituiti essenzialmente da gelsi (Morus alba) e dalle associazioni del querco-carpineto tipiche dell'antica foresta planiziale, spesso ridotti ad un unico esemplare e sede di nidificazione di numerosi uccelli. L'affioramento di falda lo rende poi un ambiente largamente vulnerabile.

4.2 Quality and importance

L'area è sede di nidificazione del Falco Cuculo (Falco vespertinus), che ha colonizzato la zona nonostante quest'area sia insolitamente occidentale per la specie. In questa zona nidificano le averle (Lanius minor e L. collurio) e, inoltre, una massiccia percentuale di tutti gli uccelli presenti è rappresentata dai predatori, all'apice delle catene trofiche e pertanto maggiormente vulnerabili alle modificazioni ambientali. Agrocenosi particolarmente varia e multifunzionale soprattutto se confrontata ai paesaggi a monoculture tipici della Pianura Padana.
