Other Site Characteristics

Dorsale collinare costituita da substrati ofiolitici e silicei nella parte più settentrionale. Il sito è prevalentemente interessato da rimboschimenti e da stadi di degradazione della vegetazione forestale. Il sito per le sue caratteristiche ecologiche viene attribuito alla regione biogeografica mediterranea, anche se ricade per il 41% nella regione continentale all'interno dei 7 Km di buffer.

4.2 Quality and importance

Presenza di un elevato numero di specie endemiche dei substrati serpentinosi (per alcune è il locus classicus) che danno luogo ad un tipo di vegetazione esclusivo delle serpentine toscane. Presenza di estese brughiere a dominanza di Ulex europaeus che ospitano l'Albanella minore e presumibilmente altre rare specie ornitiche nidificanti.
