Other Site Characteristics

Caratterizzato da rilievi calcarei di Sassi di Simone e Simoncello, di notevole valore paesaggistico, che emergono in un'area caratterizzata da pascoli e calanchi.

4.2 Quality and importance

Fra le aree di maggiore importanza per la conservazione di numerose specie ornitiche, oggi assai rare in Toscana, legate ad ampie aree aperte pascolate e coltivate, qui presenti con buone popolazioni. Da segnalare la presenza del Canis lupus e del Suncus etruscus specie endemica italiana. Fra gli Anfibi sono presenti la Rana italica e la Bombina pachypus, specie endemiche dell'Italia peninsulare.
