Other Site Characteristics

Ampia valle calcarea prevalentemente boscata, dove gli habitat segnalati con codice ed attribuiti all'ordine Prunetalia spinosae (5130) ed alle associazioni Asperulo purpureae-Brometum erecti (6210), Orno-Quercetum ilicis e Cephalanthero-Quercetum ilicis (9340), entrano in contatto, negli impluvi o nelle aree marginali, con boschi di Ostrya carpinifolia, dello Scutellario-Ostryetum.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito è caratterizzato da una lecceta per lo più mista con caducifoglie, tra le meglio conservate e più rappresentative, dal punto di vista floristico, dell'Umbria. In particolare, il settore centrale del bosco, a ridosso dell'eremo, è governato ad alto fusto con alberi ultrasecolari. A questi aspeti se ne aggiungono altri tipici dei rilievi collinari appenninici (boschi di Ostrya carpinifolia, pascoli a Bromus erectus e cespuglieti a Juniperus communis), che nell'insieme contribuiscono ad aumentare la biodiversità del sito. Tra le specie segnalate, oltre alle entità endemiche, è stata indicata Monotropa hypopitis, rara a livello regionale.
