Other Site Characteristics

Complesso montuoso calcareo dove, oltre agli habitat segnalati con codice ed attribuiti a Prunetalia spinosae (5130), Asperulo purpureae-Brometum erecti e Brizo mediae-Brometum erecti (6210), Polysticho-Fagetum (9210), sono presenti boschi di Quercus cerris dell'ordine Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae, che si sviluppano su paleosuoli fersiallitici e, alle quote più basse, cedui di Ostrya carpinifolia dell'associazione Scutellario-Ostryetum. Nelle zone pianeggianti sono infine diffusi lembi di prato-pascolo inquadrati nell'alleanza Arrhenatherion.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito comprende uno dei più vasti e rappresentativi complessi montani, forestali e pascolativi, del settore occidentale dell'Appennino umbro. In particolare, gli aspetti vegetazionali più qualificati sono: le estese faggete, talvolta con abbondante presenza di Ilex aquifolium e con ampi settori governati a fustaia; le vaste praterie montane aride e semimesofile a Bromus erectus, estrememente ben conservate e ricche da un punto di vista floristico. Tra le specie floristiche, oltre alle endemiche, sono state segnalate Bulbocodium versum ssp. versicolor (raro a livello nazionale) ed Astragalus vesicarius (rara a livello regionale). Tra la fauna è stato segnalato anche Accipiter nisus (specie rara), Buteo buteo, Falco tinnunculus (specie poco comuni), Lepus europaeus (elemento fondamentale nella catena alimentare dell'aquila reale).
