Other Site Characteristics

Modesto rilievo arenaceo caratterizzato da un'estesa copertura boschiva, dove accanto agli habitat segnalati con codice ed attribuiti alle associazioni Cisto incani-Ericetum scopariae ed Orno-Quercetum ilicis (9340), si rinvengono, nei settori meno acclivi, ma sempre soleggiati, estesi boschi di Quercus cerris, a cui si associano diverse sclerofille sempreverdi come Arbutus unedo ed Erica arborea, inquadrabili nell'associazione Erico-Quercetum cerridis.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito assume un notevole interesse geobotanico per la presenza di fitocenosi termofile in ottimo stato di conservazione (le leccete e le cerrete presentano ampie zone governate a fustaia) e molto rappresentative dal punto di vista floristico per quanto concerne la vegetazione forestale umbra. Inoltre, sono presenti brughiere a Calluna vulgaris, stazioni considerate tra le più meridionali della penisola italiana. Tra le entità floristiche presenti, oltre alle endemiche, sono di particolare rilievo: Pyrus amygdaliformis, Hymantoglossum adriaticum e Cytinus ruber, rare a livello regionale. Tra la fuana è stato segnalato anche Leuciscus cephalus (specie endemica), Buteo buteo (specie poco comune).
