Other Site Characteristics

Nodo orografico dell'Appennino centrale che raggiunge la quota più elevata sulla cima del Monte Pennino (m 1571) e dal quale si dipartono profonde incisioni vallive in varie direzioni; i versanti sono ricoperti da vaste foreste di latifoglie mesofile, fra le quali predomina il faggio, in parte di alto fusto; nel sottobosco sono presenti rare specie della flora nemorale. Il settore culminale del Monte Pennino comprende un'ampia distesa di pascoli montani, ricchi di fioriture di orchidee e di altre specie.
